At My Starting Line…
2/10/25
I started running when I was 34, and my very first race was the Portland Marathon. It’s never been my style to ease into things—I’m more of a jump into the deep end and see if I can swim kind of person. My strategy was simple: run a mile, walk a mile, and repeat until I reached 26.2 miles. When you break it down like that, it almost seems doable.
But to my surprise, once I started running, I didn’t want to stop. I didn’t care about my pace—I just wanted to keep moving. Crossing that finish line was a defining moment. I was hooked. I had never felt more accomplished or proud. I didn’t set any records, but that didn’t matter. I realized then—and have continued to realize—that I’ve always been racing against myself, both professionally and personally.
Looking back on my running journey, I’ve completed 9 marathons, around 30 half marathons (I lost count somewhere along the way), 10 10Ks, and just a handful of 5Ks. My philosophy? If I’m getting up that early to run, I might as well make it worth it. And honestly, I feel the same way about my career—if I’m going to do something, it’s going to be bold, challenging, and most importantly, fun.
Now, I find myself at yet another starting line in life. My career has spanned multiple industries, always centered around technology. I thrive on variety, new challenges, and moving fast. But I also love analyzing data—just like I do with my running routes—to refine my approach and make better decisions.
In recent years, I’ve led with my heart, dedicating my time to early-stage startups. As a breast cancer survivor, a technology and innovation enthusiast, and someone deeply invested in healthcare, I positioned myself at the intersection of healthcare and technology, striving to make an impact. It has been exhilarating, challenging, rewarding, and, at times, heartbreaking. But I’ve learned so much—what to do, what not to do, how to engage more effectively, ask better questions, and take the best of each experience to make the next one even better. I’m incredibly grateful for every lesson along the way.
Now, as I embark on launching my own consulting organization, I’m excited to stretch my legs and explore a new way of doing business. I’ll be sharing my experiences—both professional and personal—with the hope of making an impact, learning, and growing along the way.
Because if I’m going to do something, I’m going to go all in.
